You always hear the experts say that moms need to put themselves first. And I agree, but doing it is a different story. Time is always an issue, so I went searching for a little Mind, Body and Spirit therapy that will also keep up with our busy schedules.
So what can we do to clear our thoughts and de-stress? It goes without saying that eating right and getting enough sleep is the foundation for any mom. So once we commit to that, lets move on.
Next, commit to 1 hour a day for me-time. And 1-hour doesn’t have to be all at once. We can split up the hour. Maybe 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening. So here are some ideas on how to spend that hour.
– Go for a walk – Listen to music – Read a book or magazine – Take a bath – Drink a glass of wine or a cup of tea – Prepare a new recipe – Take a yoga class
Of course meditation is a big part of improving your mind, body and spirit. In fact, meditation controls your breathing and it allows you more focus, clearing of the mind, and a calm attitude. And just 5 minutes a day can make an impact in your life. So here’s how you do it.
– Light a candle to provide you with a calm atmosphere. – Sit comfortably in your favorite chair or on the floor (or in your office chair) – Close your eyes and imagine yourself in your favorite place – Take some deep breaths in through your nose, fill your belly with air and exhale through your mouth. Take in 5 breaths at once.
Do this at least once a day or when you are stressed. At work, when stuck in traffic or when the kids are running around the house.
And finally, sometimes you just need a good pick me up. And no fast food is not the answer but here are some food suggestions that will help boost your spirits.
-Eat a piece of fruit or vegetable -Grab a piece of bread (carbs will always boost your mood) -Indulge in a piece of dark chocolate (always good for the soul)
